Ramnagar gangrape: No sign of rape, medical reports reveal

Published on:

Regarding the alleged gang rape of two minors by a group of dacoits at their house in Ramnagar in Nainital district, the medical report of the alleged survivors revealed that no rape had been committed. Confirming this, Nainital SSP Sweety Aggarwal said that a team has been formed to investigate and crack the case. However, no arrest has been made so far regarding the case.

It should be mentioned here that the medical tests of the minors were held three days after the alleged incident. The crime occurred on early Sunday morning and the accused are still at large with the police remaining clueless regarding the identity of the criminals.

As per the complaint, dacoits had looted jewellery and cash worth Rs10,000 besides other items. The complaint stated that around a dozen dacoits had barged into the house and looted the house at gun point. Before escaping, the dacoits raped two minors, flaunting guns, they said.

However, State Women Commission vice president Amrita lohani said that she was not putting credence to the report which denies rape. She alleged that police had taken unusually long time in completing the medical tests of the gang rape survivors.

However, police said things had been delayed with the girls not agreeing to undergo the medical tests.

lohani said that her mother had told her that the dacoits had raped her minor daughters before decamping with the cash and other valuables. Commission has formed a team to investigate the case and report is being awaited, she said. She accused the police administration of delaying the medical examination of the minors. Police should have completed the medical tests the same day, she said.

Notably, the incident angered the people of the state with the police being in the line of fire for their alleged failure to instill fear into the criminals. They said they were scared not just for their daughters but for themselves too with the criminals going on the looting spree with impunity. The members of different social organisations and political parties staged protest over the issue and demanded the administration to arrest the criminals promptly.

The agitation spree continued on Thursday too as scores of BJP women activists protested in the district and accused of police administration of doing nothing to crack the case and check crimes. They also alleged that police were intent on suppressing the case. The cops delaying the medical tests of the minors confirmed this suspicion, they said.

The protesters burnt the state government in its effigy.  Police seem to be hand in gloves with the criminals, alleged one of the woman BJP activists Rajbala Chauhan.

SSP Aggarwal said that police had approached the minors and their family members for conducting medical examinations.

“But initially they refused. They agreed after I met them and convinced them to complete their medicals. Minors were told that the medical reports would help give maximum punishment to the culprits. Finally, the tests were done on the third day since the incident occurred,” she added.
