Alleging that the City Patrol Unit has become money- spinning machine for the police department, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha members protested at SSP office and attempted to burn the CPU in effigy. However, police snatched the effigy away from them. Dozens of BJYM members led by Rajendra Singh took out a rally in the city while shouting slogans against police administration. later, they met the SSP Pushpak Jyoti and submitted a memorandum to him.
The protestors alleged that CPU is busy imposing challans on persons who violate traffic rules. The unit has caused anxiety among the vehicle users, especially the women who are apprehensive of the video clips being misused. CPU personnel are allegedly making money from liquor peddlers too, they said. No action has been taken by the senior police officers so far, they added. It should be mentioned here that the City Patrol Unit was formed as swift response team to check crimes like chain snatching, eve -teasing and other offences in the city.
