Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul has directed the officials to keep the Raj Bhawan opened on Republic Day and Independence Day for citizens and school children interested in seeing the illuminated building at night. A statement issued by the Raj Bhawan said as per the facility being provided on the instructions of the Governor for the first time since State formation, the citizens can visit and view the illuminated Raj Bhawan on August 14 and 15 on the occasion of Independence Day from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
Changes may be made in the timings on Independence Day according to the weather conditions. It will be recalled that after taking oath of office on January 8 earlier this year, the Governor has expressed his wished to facilitate viewing of the Raj Bhawan for citizens and school children to further involve them in the celebration of such national commemorations. It is pertinent to mention here that though the general public is able to see illuminated Government buildings like the Vidhan Sabha and Secretariat from the road on Republic Day and Independence Day, the Raj Bhawan has so far remained out of bounds for the general public on such occasions.
