In view of increasing thefts and burglaries taking place in the city, Raipur MlA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ announced giving Rs 10 lakh to the police department under MlA local area development fund for installing CCTV cameras in the areas falling under his constituency limit.
MlA Kau met Garhwal Range deputy inspector general (DIG) of Police Pushpak Jyoti on Wednesday and said that he would give Rs 10 lakh to the police department for installing CCTV cameras at the gates of important colonies located in the Raipur and Nehru Colony police station areas. Police officers should identity the vulnerable places before installing CCTV cameras in the colonies, he said.
Acting on it, DIG Jyoti directed the Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti to depute police officers for identifying the places where CCTV cameras will be installed under Nehru Colony and Raipur police station areas.
While taking to The Pioneer, Kau said that he was concerned over thefts and burglaries happening frequently in locked- up houses in Raipur and Nehru Colony area over the past few months. “In order to strengthen security of the constituency limit, we have decided to give money to the police department for installing CCTV cameras. In absence of CCTV cameras at the gates of colonies or important places like Rispana and Bypass, the offenders are committing such crimes with impunity and escaping after the crimes are committed. Once CCTV cameras are installed at colonies or important places we are sure that they would instill some fear among the criminals. CCTV camera footage will facilitate the police to crack the crimes easily and swiftly too,” he said.
"Once we collect the details of colonies or places where police wish to install CCTV cameras, we will submit the proposal to the department concerned for the release of funds for the same,” he added.
He said he hoped that CCTV cameras would be installed at various places in Raipur and Nehru Colony police station area within a couple of months.
