Rainwater, garbage enter homes

Affected Chamba villagers seek shelter elsewhere

lack of civic maintenance resulted in rainwater, mud and garbage entering homes in Mathiani village in Chamba area on Tuesday night following incessant rains.

Apart from this, a tree uprooted in inclement weather snapped an 11 KV power cable near Peyjal Nigam colony in Chamba town following rains on Tuesday night. This disrupted power supply in the region for about 12 hours. The power department personnel worked amid heavy rain and finally succeeded in restoring power supply.

Apart from this, choked nullahs and culverts in Chamba also resulted in rainwater along with mud and garbage entering homes at Mathiana village, forcing the affected villagers to seek shelter elsewhere.

The residents said that the shoddy preparation for the monsoons by Nagar Panchayat and Border Roads Organisation resulted in water logging on the Dharasu road.

The overflowing water and garbage entered homes at Mathiana due to the choked nullahs not being cleaned before the advent of monsoon by the authorities concerned.

Villager lakshmikant Kothiyal said that one woman along with her three children barely manage to escape from the mud debris that had entered her house on Tuesday night.

The locals point out that inspite of Government claims about preparations being made to prevent disasters and other problems during the monsoon season, the lack of necessary preparations by the authorities concerned have proved the government claims hollow considering the problems being faced in Chamba a day after the advent of monsoon season in the State.
