In a good piece of news for the residents of Dehradun reeling under sweltering heat for some days, the Met department has forecast   light to moderate rainfall for a few days at isolated places across the State from April 21 under the impact of the approaching western disturbances. The weathermen added that the mercury would dip by four or five degrees between April 21 and April 25 if it rains as forecast.

With the maximum temperature soaring upto 35.9 degree Celsius in Dehradun on Tuesday, the roads across Dehradun were found deserted during the day hours.  Those who were forced to come out had their faces covered. To shield themselves from the scorching heat, most of them, including  the school students, used umbrellas. The scene at the markets was the same with a few buyers  found shopping at the noon, braving the heat spell.

A shopkeeper Anup Verma who has his shop at Indira Market said that the customers are choosing to  come during the evening hours after the heat subsides a bit. “The volume of our sale is plummeting,” he rued.

The plight of the students was grim with many of them being found  waiting on the roads for buses to go back home under the scorching sun.

Uttarakhand Meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that the maximum temperature is likely to soar to over 37 degree Celsius in Dehradun on Wednesday.

The minimum temperature would hover in the neighbourhood  of 22 degree Celsius, he added.

The highest maximum temperature 36.6°C was recorded at Pantnagar while the lowest minimum temperature 13.3°C was recorded at Mukteshwar on Tuesday.

While the maximum settled at 35.9ºC (three degree above the normal) and the minimum at 22.0ºC (five degree above the normal) in Dehradun it was 23.6ºC (one degree above the normal) and 13.3ºC (three degree above the normal) in Mukteshwar and 36.6ºC (one degree above the normal) and 22.9ºC (seven degree above the normal) in Pantnagar on Tuesday. In Tehri district, the maximum temperature was reported as 25.4 degree Celsius while the minimum was 15.8 degree Celsius on Tuesday, Singh said.
