Rains being experienced in Nainital for about a week now have further boosted the much needed restoration of the water level in the Naini lake. With the rain also recharging the natural sources of water in the area, the water level in the lake, which had dipped in the past, has been rising since the advent of the rains this year. According to official sources, between January and July 2 this year, about 616 millimetre rain has been received in the area.

The Naini lake it a major source of water in Nainital town. This year, the Jal Sansthan had started supply of water according to the roster from April, which helped prevent the emergence of delta on the lake.

Though there was no rain here during April and May, the spells of rain during June also helped prevent emergence of deltas on the lake. The lake control cell chief supervisor Ramesh Singh stated that this year there has been about 616 mm rainfall in Nainital so far. During the corresponding period in 2017, 1223 mm rainfall had been received in Nainital. He further informed that on July 2, 2017, the water level in Naini lake was -5.80 feet whereas this year it is -1.65 feet. Considering the rains being experienced at present, at this rate the water level in the lake would rise from minus to at least zero level within one week. After the zero level the measurement of the water level in the lake will be in plus digits. The rains have also helped recharge all the natural sources of water in the area. Further, all the storm water drains are also depositing water in the lake.
