The State Meteorological Centre has forecast the possibility of light rain and snowfall in some districts of the State in the coming days. Snowfall may occur in the high altitude areas of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. A change was seen in the weather pattern of Chamoli district on Sunday. There was also a hailstorm with rain in Munsiyari. Other mountainous areas of the state are also likely to witness light rainfall.

The weather has become salubrious after light snowfall in the mountainous regions but it’s time that people of the state should get ready for cold spells as there will be a gradual decrease in temperature.

According to the director of state meteorological centre, Bikram Singh, there will be some activity like rainfall or snowfall on November 7 and 8. The snowfall is expected in areas at and above 4,000 metres altitude.

“Snowfall, rainfall and hailstorms in the month of November is the result of western disturbances.” said Singh.

When asked if this is the advent of winter in the state’s provisional capital he says that this season is considered post monsoon.

“The minimum temperature in the valley right now goes to 14- 15 degrees Celsius. We can say that winter is here when the temperature goes below 10 degrees.

The weather as of now is pleasant and it will remain same for another three days.” he added.
