The intention of State congress behind holding a meeting of workers and inviting Rahul Gandhi to address them was that he would be able to mobilize the workers before the crucial battle of assembly election but it was clearly evident that the party has failed in its objective. The speech of Congress Vice President was lackluster and failed to enthuse the workers. His attempts like removing his jacket and rolling of sleeves during his address also did not had desired effect on the audience. In a contradictory statement Gandhi gave credit for implementing One Rank One Pension (OROP) and at the same time blamed the BJP government for not providing OROP. He attempted to show that he leads an austere lifestyle by showing that the pocket of his Kurta is torn. It did evoked laughter from the audience but this act failed to strike an emotional chord as he is considered as the scion of the ruling family of India. “His address was not as effective as I was expecting it to be,’’ said one of a congress worker. Rahul however drew applause when he attacked the Modi and RSS during his speech. He also touched the right note when he said that the Uttarakhand should be compensated with green bonus for protecting environment.
The Congress Vice President stopped his motorcade when he spotted a peanut vendor after he was returning after addressing the meeting of workers. He purchased some peanuts and asked the well-being of the vendor who looked spellbound.
