Although the department has been working round the clock for repairing the damaged roads for resuming the vehicular flow of traffic in the disaster hit areas of the State, the department has to show little more pace to repair the damaged roads in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand.

The vehicular flow of traffic in the higher parts of the State has been continuously disrupted to fresh land slides and mud slides in the State. Among the worst affected districts are Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Tehri districts of the Garhwal divisions of Uttarakhand.

More steps are yet to be introduced by the PWD for resuming the vehicular flow of traffic on 387 connecting routes and link routes in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand. Well established sources revealed that the Rs 1,314 crore has been sanctioned for the current financial year in the comparison to the last year of Rs 1,167 crore  for the previous financial year for all schemes and projects.

According to him, funds are marginally released but the tenders have been already sought for carrying repairing work across the State. One of the department sources from PWD who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that nodal agencies have been regularly instructed to repair the damaged roads in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand.

“Department has been trying at its level best to have better coordination with other nodal agencies which include BRO, NHAI and municipal council for repairing the damaged roads across the State,” he said, and further lamented that the repaired roads are getting damaged again due to the inclement weather in the higher parts of the State.

He said that the funds have been sanctioned to the nodal agencies on the submission of the closure reports to the department. After completely ruled out the use of inferior quality materials during repairing and reconstructing of roads, he told that claimed that the most of the blocked routes were repaired and opened for the vehicular flow of traffic in the disaster hit districts of the State.
