The State BJP has strongly opposed the State Government’s demand from the Centre to hand over many key roads across the State to the State owned agency PWD from the Border Road Organisation (BRO), apprehending such kind decision on part of this Congress led State Government may lead to corruption.
The State-owned PWD has not been able to do even the minimum road repair works. How can it carry out the border road construction works, asked former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior BJP leader Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, during his Kumaon visit here on Wednesday.
I would like to maintain that the State Government is trying to get the road related workload from the BRO only to siphoned off huge funds that the Central Government has agreed to grant to the hill State for carrying out the relief works in the natural disaster hit areas across the State.
Otherwise one can understand how can the PWD that has not been able even to repair its own roads as we can see all over the State, bear such huge burden of construction or rebuilding of border roads, wondered Koshiyari.
The matter of concern is that even after so many months of passing of rainy season, road networks across the state still remain in poor State, he added.
That is why we strongly oppose such kind of decision of this State Government. Rather the Congress led State Government must concentrate on mitigating the hardships of the natural disaster victims who are still staying in tents in different parts of the State.
It is quite disappointing to know that many a number of disaster hit families has not yet been rehabilitated.
I have already called on the Chief Minister on the issue of rehabilitation of the natural disaster hit families. But nothing has been done so far , Koshiyari further said.
My suggestion is that all these natural disaster hit families can be rehabilitated in the terai region of the hill State on long term basis so that they may not have to face similar problems during rainy season every year. But people are still living in makeshift arrangements, he expressed concern.
