Pvt firms ignore rules, continue excavation of public roads

Despite orders issued by the previous Dehradun district magistrate Dr BVRC Purushottam, to stop road excavation works by the Reliance company, the company dug up the roadside for laying underground cables at Municipal Road Chowk and Circular Road Chowk which is causing inconvenience to the local residents.

Taking cognisance of public complaints regarding the same, Rajpur Road MlA  and parliamentary secretary Rajkumar reached the spot and expressed his outrage at company officials for not observing the DM’s order. For violating the DM’s order and damaging a water pipeline, Rajkumar directed the Jal Sansthan officers to lodge an FIR against Reliance company officers in the local police station.

In the recent past, local residents had met the then Dehradun DM and informed him about problems being caused by private companies excavating public roads. Taking cognisance of this, Purushottam had ordered such excavation work by the company to be stopped without delay.

Meanwhile, local residents on Monday met MlA Rajkumar and informed him about a water pipeline being ruptured during excavation by the company on Municipal Road Chowk and Circular Road Chowk which is causing inconvenience to the locals. The MlA then talked to the present DM Chandresh Kumar Yadav who is reported to have ordered a stop on the excavation in this locality. The MlA then directed the Jal Sansthan officials to repair the damaged water pipeline and ensure that water supply to the affected localities is restored without delay.

It is pertinent to mention here that excavation of public roads by various private companies in violation of the regulations, continues to poses severe inconvenience to the public. With the monsoon slated to reach the State in the next couple of days, stretches of roads and roadsides dug up by private companies is expected to heighten the problems faced by citizens. Despite repeated complaints from residents of various localities in the State capital, the authorities have so far remained incapable of preventing the private companies from causing public inconvenience.
