linking animal husbandry, poultry, dairy development with MNREGA and facilitating training to grow high quality malta fruit can help improve the financial condition of the locals and unemployed people in disaster affected villages of the Kedarnath valley.

Dr BVRC Purushottam said this after resuming charge as the Dehradun district magistrate following a 26-day stint as the disaster relief commissioner of Kedarnath valley. Resuming charge as the Dehradun DM, Purushottam reiterated that problems faced by the public would be redressed without delay and officials concerned will be directed to ensure that the problems of the common people are resolved within a week.

Recalling his experience as relief commissioner of Kedar valley, he said that he himself had inspected 10 affected villages and interacted with villagers to learn of their problems.  Officials deployed for relief work in the area also inspected 26 affected villages and learnt of the problems being faced by the villagers. Suggestions were also taken from the villagers for measures needed to improve the economic condition of people in the affected areas. In his report submitted to the State administration, Purushottam has stated that linking animal husbandry, dairy development and poultry with MNREGA in addition to training farmers in cultivation of high quality malta will help them improve their financial condition and become self reliant.

He said that road connectivity to Kedarnath shrine is a major problem and about 300 labourers have been employed to reopen the route to the shrine. However, the work is being delayed due to inclement weather. Measures are being taken to complete this task without much delay. The supply of electricity and water has also been restored to this area. Additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Jharna Kamthan, ADM (Administration) Harak Singh Rawat, SDM (Civil) Ramji Sharan, city magistrate GC Gunwant and other officials were also present on the occasion.
