Punjab's two chief parliamentary secys to boycott I-Day function

In protest mode, Punjab Government’s two chief parliamentary secretaries — SAD MlA Inderbir Singh Bolaria and BJP MlA Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu — on Friday declared that they would not participate in any Government’s Independence Day function on Saturday.

The two protesting leaders, hauling from the ruling alliance, has also made it clear that they would not hoist the National Flag in any such event. While Bolaria was scheduled to unfurl the Tricolour at Phagwara, Dr Sidhu was to hoist the National Flag at Baba Bakala.

Perturbed over the State Government’s attitude and delay in sanctioning the “demanded” grant for her constituency, Amritsar (East) MlA has decided to sit on ‘fast-unto-death’ on Saturday morning.

She has all along been demanding Rs 10 crore for carrying out development works in her constituency, while making it clear that no amount less than that would be acceptable to her.

Dr Sidhu had alleged that the Badals were bothered only about Bathinda and the Akali constituencies and her constituency Amritsar (East) was in a pathetic state as the promised grants of Rs 10 crore were awaiting clearance for months.

Despite repeated assurances by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the grant is yet to be released. Dr Sidhu had already fixed August 15 as deadline for the same.

She contended that Rs 10 crore is required for repairing roads, and in case, the government sanctions less grants, the work would be left incomplete that would only give troubles to the people, instead of facilities.

On the other hand, Bolaria is protesting against his own government over the issue of setting up solid waste management plant in residential area. Bolaria, Amritsar South MlA, maintained that he would sit on dharna and would not participate in the function.
