The Prathemik Shikshak Sangh (PSS), organisation of primary teachers of the State, is gearing itself to participate in the Delhi rally which is being organised by the All India Primary Teachers’ Federation (AIPTF) on September 19.
With a strength of about 27000 members the PSS is the biggest and most powerful employee organization of the state. The parent body of the PSS is AIPTF which would hold a mammoth rally at Ramleela ground in New Delhi in which the teachers from all states of country would participate.
The President of PSS, Nirmala Mahar told The Pioneer that the major demands of the teachers are the implementation of old pension scheme for the teachers appointed after 2005 and removal of the discrepancies in the salary structure of teachers in the sixth pay commission. She said that the Federation is demanding that every primary school of the country should have a position of head master (HM) and Rs 16290 should be the entry level grade of primary teachers in every state of the country.
Mahar said that all the district units of the PSS have been asked to send sufficient representation from their districts. “The big and districts situated in plains have been asked to send a minimum contingent of 150 members in the rally while the small and mountainous districts would send at least 75 members in the Delhi rally”, she remarked.
Taking a dig at senior officials of state government, Mahar said that they try to prevent the measures of teachers’ welfare. She claimed that though Chief Minister Harish Rawat is sympathetic to the demands of teachers the senior education department officer subvert the good intensions of CM. She also questioned changing of the time table of the schools and said that a uniform time table for both summers and winters is an unfeasible option.
