PSS calls off February strike

Published on:

After the assurance from State Chief Minister Harish Rawat of looking into their demands, the Prathamik Shikshak Sangh (PSS), the association of primary teachers of the State has suspended its proposed strike call.  The association of teachers had earlier given a strike call from February which they now have called off. However the PSS has also made it clear that the suspension is only temporary and if the things do turn in the desired directions in the days to come the call could be revived.

A delegation of PSS met the chief minister, Harish Rawat late on Wednesday night  and presented the demands of the teachers. The meeting was also attended by the top officials of state education department.  The General Secretary of the association, Digvijay Singh Chauhan said that the six member delegation presented the 14 point demands of the teachers to the CM. “We have called off our agitation temporarily but if in another 15-20 days our demands are not met, we will start our agitation again,” he quipped.

The demands of the primary government school teachers are removal of pay disparity vis a vis other cadres of government teachers, implementation of assured career progression (ACP) scheme and initiating the stalled process of promotions of the primary teachers.

The association is also against the rampant up gradation of the primary schools. The PSS leaders claimed that the CM has assured that Junior high schools would be separately governed and the two year service extension would be provided to recipients of President or Governor awards.
