The municipal corporation of Haldwani could not get permission to dump garbage in the trenching ground from the High Court on Tuesday. The municipal corporation had filed a recall application in a PIl to seek permission for dumping garbage in the trenching ground which was denied by the high court division bench. A review petition has been filed in the case in which the court has directed the additional principal chief conservator of forests to transfer four hectare land to the municipal corporation within 24 hours for garbage disposal and submit a report in the court.

The division bench of justices Rajiv Sharma and Sharad Kumar Sharma also directed the state government to submit a report within a week on its plan for setting up a plant for scientific disposal of solid waste.

According to the case details, Haldwani based Indiranagar Janvikas Samiti had filed a PIl in the high court stating that the medical waste generated in Haldwani was being dumped in Indiranagar and near the Gaula river with a population of about 30,000 living in the vicinity. Garbage from Haldwani, Nainital, Bhawal and Rudrapur was being dumped here. In its submission, the municipal corporation had stated that they had not received permission from the forest department for a trenching ground.
