Provide extra buses during Kanwar pilgrimage: Officials

Published on:

To cater to the heavy rush of pilgrims expected for Kanwar pilgrimage which begins on July 20, the Haridwar Parivahan Nigam officials have written to the higher officials to provide extra buses. The officials said that there would be no dearth of busses on any route leading to Haridwar.

Come July 20 and the devotees of lord Shiva who come to the holy city to fetch holy water from Ganga to be offered to “Shivalayas” back homes, would begin their pilgrimage. It is a challenge for the transport authorities to cater to the rush and facilitate the common tourists during peak season to reach destination glitch free.

Speaking to The Pioneer, AGM of Haridwar Roadways Suresh Chauhan said, “Transport is the biggest challenge before us during the festive season. Besides, the annual Kanwar pilgrimage sees lakhs of people coming to the city. With Kanwariyas everywhere on roads, buses move with difficulty. If traffic police manage traffic properly things are easy for us as we have no dearth of resources. Adequate number of busses would be made available to the people coming to and going from Haridwar city,” he added.

When asked on the entry of busses barred during the closing days of Kanwar pilgrimage , Chauhan said, “Arrangements must be made for busses to ply from Bairagi camp and Chandi Ghat parking. This alternative can be best used by the police to resume the flow of busses even during Dak Kanwars.”
