Hundreds of locals protested outside the Pacific Mall on Rajpur Road against the mall administration for improperly draining sewage. They alleged that the mall administration dumps its sewage improperly on Rajpur Road from where it ends up on Johri Road making it inconvenient for the locals. The protesting locals have given the mall administration one week to redress the situation and have threatened to block the Rajpur Road coming Sunday if necessary action will not be taken.
A large number of Johri residents reached the mall on Sunday morning and gheraoed the building preventing anyone from either entering it or exiting it.
The protest resulted in a traffic jam on the busy Rajpur Road. The protesters complained that sewage from the mall is being drained every night by the mall administration in an improper manner. The dirty water ends up on Johri road where it causes inconvenience and poses a health risk to the locals. One of the protesters, BM Bhattarai said, “We have been requesting the mall administration to make proper arrangements for draining of the sewage for the past eight months but they have remained apathetic to the problems being faced by us so far. We have given
them one week to take necessary action failing which we will be forced to block traffic on the Rajpur Road in protest on the coming Sunday,” he added.
Other protesters pointed out that proper sewerage arrangements should have been made in such a big mall but the authorities concerned passed its building map without considering this aspect. later, the police from Rajpur police station reached the protest site and facilitated talks between the protesters and the mall officials.
The mall officials assured the protesting locals that the dirty water would not be drained on the road.
