Protest against Govt's bid to allow 100% FDI in defence

In protest against the Central Government's intention of allowing 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the defence sector, the employees of the Ordnance Factory, DRDO labs, NHO and Military Engineering Services (MES) located here started their two-day agitation on Monday.

The agitation is being organised under Defence Employees Coordination committee which is affiliated to All India Defence Employees Federation. The agitating employees also sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Defence minister and the defence secretary in which they expressed their anguish at the proposal of 100 percent FDI in defence sector.

The National Executive Committee Member JC Chhimwal said that the defence employees observed gate meetings and wore black batches against the government's move. He said that any move to allow FDI in Defence would be opposed because access to the Indian Defence Industry by the foreign Arms Manufacturers is not in the interest of national security and this will have serious ramification on security of the country. Moreover the induction of foreign Arms manufacturers in the vital defence sector comes with a possibility that the rigid specifications laid down for Defence Equipments especially fighting equipments may not be followed, he added.
