The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has opened an online payment gateway system for property tax collection with the help of the IDBI bank on the corporation’s official website.

After launching the facility here on Monday, the Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli said that the online system will be operated on an experimental basis for one week after which it will be made permanent.

Addressing the media after launching the online facility, the Mayor said that there are about 1.20 lakh homes in Dehradun of which property tax is collected on about 57,000.

“The online facility, the first of its kind in Uttarakhand, is available on the MCD’s

website www.naga nigamdehradun.com wherein by following the link provided, a property owner will receive an ID number that will

facilitate payment of the property tax.

In the experimental stage during the first week of this system, we will cover only 10,000 buildings but after a week when this system becomes fully operational, we are aiming to cover all buildings in Dehradun on which the corporation has to receive property tax.

We will try to resolve any snags in this system during its experimental phase,” said the Mayor, adding that there are about 60,000 buildings on which property tax is not paid to the MCD.

It is pertinent to mention here that the MCD expects to earn about Rs 10 cr a year from property tax which will now be collected on rental value basis. MCD leader of opposition Neenu Sehgal, councillors and additional Mukhya Nagar Adhikaris Harshvardhan Mishra and Banshidhar Tiwari were also present on the occasion.
