The tender process for procuring computer equipment and printers for 30 newly established police stations is under process in the state. There are total 152 police stations in the state out of which 122 police stations are connected with crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS).

State police spokesman and the additional director general of police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena said that under the interoperable criminal justice system as envisaged by the Centre, court, jail, forensic science laboratory (FSl) among others will be interconnected with the police station and police department. Calling it a milestone in the realm of policing, he said its success would transform the picture of criminal justice system. The digitisation of data in around 170 police stations and offices of senior police officers has been nearly completed.

A proposal sent for setting up CCTNS in 30 new police stations was approved and tender process for procurement of computer, printer etc for 30 police stations is currently under process. An allocation of Rs 24 crore has been made for execution of the  CCTNS project in the state out of which, a sum of Rs 16 crore has been spent on CCTNS project so far. Three computers, one camera, power generator and two printers have been given to each of the police stations under CCTNS project. The FIR and other relevant information like case diary, general diary and other documentation have already been uploaded by the police officers concerned.

CCTNS will have details like first information report, charge- sheet, complete information about the criminal, panchanamas and status of cases. This will help in strengthening the monitoring system as the department officers can easily supervise crime cases in the State. It should be mentioned here that earlier, the Supreme Court had directed all the states and union territories to upload the FIRs on police station websites within 24 hours of registration barring cases related to national security, communal tension and privacy of women.

The deputy inspector general of police, Garhwal Range, Pushpak Jyoti said that all the FIRs registered in police stations are being uploaded in police department’s website from November 9, last year. Police provide computerised FIR copy to the complainants.

It is pertinent to mention here that the CCTNS is a Mission Mode Project under the National e-Governance Plan of Government of India. CCTNS aims at making the police functioning citizen friendly and more transparent by automating the functioning of police stations; improve delivery of citizen-centric services through effective usage of ICT; providing the investigating officers of the civil police with tools, technology and information to facilitate investigation of crime and detection of criminals; improve police functioning in various areas such as maintaining the law and order, traffic management and others; facilitate interaction and sharing of information among police stations, districts, State/UT headquarters and other police agencies andreduce manual and redundant Records keeping Under the CCTNS Project, he added.
