The plight of people facing problems due to shortage of currency would aggravate on Monday as the wheels of thousands of trucks ferrying goods would be stopped from midnight of Sunday.  The one day strike call is given by the All India Transport Association against the problems faced by the transporters due to demonetisation of Currency notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 by the Narendra Modi led NDA Government. The strike call is expected to halt more than 14000 trucks which ply on the roads of the State daily. The immediate effect of the strike call would be witnessed over the Vegetable Mandi of Dehradun and other cities.

The Patron of the Uttarakhand Truck operators Union, Surya Kant Dhasmana told The Pioneer that the truck operators are one of the worst affected people by the recent decision of withdrawal of currency. “Most of the truck drivers are stranded on the long routes with no currency in their hands. They are not in a position to visit the banks and to make thing worse the consignments are being refused by the consignees in absence of currency triggered by the decision of the Government,’’ he said.  Dhasmana said that the talks within the association are going on exempt essential services out of the purview of the strike.
