Pauri District Magistrate Chandra Sekhar Bhatt has submitted the report of the inquiry into alleged financial irregularities and misuse of municipal funds by the Pauri Municipal Board to the Garhwal Commissioner. The report was submitted to Garhwal Commissioner on February 6, after over one month since the Garhwal Commissioner had issued the deadline for the DM to submit the report.
It is pertinent to mention that acting on the memorandum served by seven out of the eleven Municipal Board members pinpointing alleged financial irregularities and misuse of board funds, Garhwal Commissioner C S Napalchayal had appointed the District Magistrate as the inquiry officer. He had asked the DM to conduct an inquiry and submit the report in one week.
After 25 days since the order was issued , the representatives of the town had met the Commissioner and said there had been no progress in the inquiry. Sources said that due to absence of the executive officer, Pauri Municipal Council, the files could not have been put before the inquiry officer. As soon as the files reached, the DM had completed the probe and submitted the report to the Garhwal Commissioner.
Sources said that the inquiry report includes only seven points of the memorandum. The matters taken up in the inquiry includes the increase of the salary of the computer operator and legal advisor, the sale of the demolished municipality rest house, use of municipality fund in the Autumn Festival and the like.
