Probe reveals 13 cattle died in Kanji House

The report of the probe which was ordered by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat through the Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, it has been clarified that 13 cattle had died in the Kanji House during July whereas 102 cattle deaths were registered during the same time in the area under the purview of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Another such probe was ordered by Dehradun district magistrate C Ravishankar.

Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “We had stated earlier as well that the cattle MCD rescues and takes to Kanji House are those who are either aged or have been injured in an accident. It is not surprising giving their conditions that they do not survive for longer periods. In the post mortem report of two of the cows we in fact also found large amount of polythene which is injurious for the health of any cattle for that matter.”

It is pertinent to mention here that considering the limited capacity of the Kanji House, the MCD with the help of state government has identified a place at Selaqui which is to be developed into a full-fledged Gau-Sadan on the lines of the Mathura Gau Sadan in Uttar Pradesh. It is also important to mention here that the 102 cattle deaths registered in the MCD records are lower than the actual number of cattle deaths in the city. A senior officer at MCD said that this data only includes the number of those cattle carcasses which were removed by the employees of MCD from the city area.

Many a time people pay some private individual to bury the cattle, of which MCD has no record. In order to establish some responsibility MCD is working on a proposed plan in which every cattle will be marked with a micro chip so that the owner can be get identified if any harm befalls upon the cattle.
