Probe begins as women not operated upon after administering anesthesia

An enquiry has been set by the Chief Medical Officer of Dehradun after dozens of women were not operated in the health centres even after they were administered anesthesia before tubectomy operation.

Higher health officials claimed that strict departmental action would be surely taken against those medical officers, if they are found guilty of lethargic approach while performing the medical procedures.

It is to be noteworthy that around one dozen women reached to Mussoorie based civil hospital for tubectomy. After conducting necessary medical investigations at the hospital, the medical officer administered anesthesia for operation.

Shockingly, women patients were not operated upon by the appointed surgeon, who exclusively went to the hospital from Dehradun for conducting operation in family planning camp, which was organised by the medical, health and family welfare department.

Sources revealed that laparoscopic machine was breakdown due to thefault in stabilizer before the patients operated. After noticing that the machine was not functioning, the surgeon returned to Dehradun.

However, hospital administration claimed that patients were shifted tothe higher centre and completely ruled out that procedure was fatal for the patients.

While speaking to The Pioneer, Dr Gurupal Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Dehradun said an enquiry has been set up by the department as to why laparoscopic machine broke down before the start of operation.

“I visited the health centre on Wednesday after the lethargic approach of Mussoorie based health centre was unfolded,” he said, adding that strict departmental action would be surely taken against medical officer in-charge or any other health officials, if they are found of guilty.

Dr Singh further said that strict instructions have been already given to medical officer in-charge of health centres for providing immediate medical and health care to the patients. He said that the administering anesthesia before laparoscopic surgery or any other major surgeries is a routine procedure and is done under the strict supervision of the specialist doctor.
