The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun’s hold over the Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) has weakened. Now another private company, Delhi based US Advertising Agency, is cocking a snook at the MCD by erecting bus shelters in the town without following the prescribed norms.
As per Congress councilor at MCD, Dr Vijendra Pal Singh the Delhi based company, instead of installing bus shelters in the earmarked areas is erecting these according to its own wish. He added that it had installed most of the bus shelters at Rajpur Road, which is considered a posh area of the town and can bring more advertisement revenue for the company.
He further said that the project was initially introduced considering the convenience of the commuters. But the company officials are simply trying to earn profit from the project and are installing the bus shelters where these are needed less.
However, Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) at MCD, Ashok Kumar stressed that the company officials would be asked to remove the bus shelters found installed at sites not marked earlier. He said that MCD had already provided the list of sites marked for the bus shelters to the company
officials but the company is not following this list.
Meanwhile, Congress councillors at MCD also urged the MNA to form a committee of officials to review the progress of the ongoing bus shelters installation work. The MNA said that the review would be started once the
project is completed.
When asked about the buses not halting at the already constructed bus shelters in the town he said, “A committee of police and RTO officials has already been formed to check if the bus shelters are being put to the intended use.”
He said that another reminder would be sent to the committee members to check the anomalies. It is pertinent to mention that in spite of many modern bus shelters being installed in the town the bus operators are stopping and picking passengers from anywhere on the route.
Regarding this Kumar said that RTO officials would be sent a reminder regarding this to instruct the bus operators to follow the rules and pick passengers from the designated place only.
