The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh and other Congress leaders left for Delhi on Wednesday to participate in the programme organised to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The programme would be held at Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium on Thursday. Ahead of the important programme in Delhi the morale of the Congress party workers and leaders is high after success of state level programme held in Haridwar on August 19. The party organised a ‘ Sadhbhawna rally’ in Haridwar. The state unit of the party had organised a series of programmes at blocks and districts from August 14 to mark the 75th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The spokesperson of the PCC Garima Mahra Dassauni said that apart from PCC President, the leader of opposition in Uttarakhand assembly Indira Hridayesh, MP Pradeep Tamta, all the MLAs, members of the All India Congress Committee, former MPs, former MLAs, office bearers and members of PCC, presidents of district congress committees, chairmen of all ancillary organisations of party and senior congress leaders and members would participate in the programme. Interestingly the visit of PCC president Pritam Singh is his first after the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairman Sonia Gandhi was nominated as interim President of the Congress party. It is expected that during his meeting with the Congress President, the issue of reconstitution of the PCC is likely to figure.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pritam Singh was appointed as PCC chief in May 2017 after the severe drubbing the party faced at the hands of BJP in the assembly elections in the State.
However in last 27 months Pritam Singh was not able to select his new team in the PCC. He has so far worked with the old PCC team that was chosen during the time when Kishore Upadhyaya was PCC President.
