In protest against the apathetic attitude of district administration and police for failing to take action against rowdy students, the DBS College Principal and staff members have decided to close the college on Monday and Tuesday.
A decision in this effect was taken in a meeting of Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti which consists of members of both teaching and non-teaching staff of the college on Sunday late evening. Informing about the decision the Principal of the college OP Kulshrestha told The Pioneer that since no action is taken against the students against whom FIR was lodged it was decided not to open the college for two more days. He said that students who were involved in rowdy behavior are not even the students of the college. The Principal appealed the parents of students to cooperate and assured that the loss of the studies would be compensated by the teachers once the college reopens. This decision has averted an immediate showdown between the Principal and student leaders who have threatened to deny his entry in the college campus.
Meanwhile, the police and district administration would be preparing to avoid repetition of incidence of Friday when the DAV College Principal was prevented by the students to enter college premises at neighboring DBS College when it reopens.
On Friday the student leaders tried to forcibly stop the Principal of DAV Devendra Bhasin on which police intervened and a major showoff between agitated students and policemen occurred.
The student leaders of the DBS College who are on a path of agitation for alleged involvement of their Principal OP Kulshrestha in fake admissions in the college have declared that they would not allow the Principal to enter the college. The DBS College was closed following violent agitation of students on October 28. One of senior leader of National Student Union of India (NSUI), Niytananad who is spearheading the movement against Principal told the Pioneer that the students would allow the college to function normally but would not allow the Principal to enter the college. He added that the students would go to any length to deny entry of Principal in the college. The student leader claimed that the role of Principal in giving admissions to at least four students is the college against all norms is established and he should resign immediately.
The Principal Kulshrestha said that he would definitely attend the college when it opens despite the threat of some student leaders. He denied any irregularity in the entire process of admissions. The Principal informed that the students were given reply on their RTI query and if they are not satisfied with the reply then they have an option of filing the case in the appellate authority.
On October 28, some students alleging gross irregularities in the process of admissions had retorted to smashing of furniture and flower pots following which local police was called up to control the rowdy students. The tempers in the otherwise peaceful college are flared up since then and the atmosphere here appear similar to the DAV college where the student leaders are on a path of agitation for removal of College Principal Devendra Bhasin.
