The primary teachers of the district engaged in lock out of the schools in protest against inordinate delay in the process of promotions. The primary teachers gathered at the office of Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Dehradun, S P Khali and engaged in slogan shouting in support of their demands. It is learnt that 60 percent of the schools of the district were locked on the day.
The district President of Prathemik Shikshak Sangh (PSS), Virendra Singh Krishali told The Pioneer that the lock out call was a success. He said that thepromotion of the primary teachers to the cadre of lecturer Teachers (lT) is pending since 2014. The PSS leader lambasted the senior officers of the department for not heeding the regular reminders of the organisation for pending promotions due to which the teachers were forced to take this step. “ More than 250 teachers of the district are adversely affected by the long pending promotions. Many of the teachers have retired waiting for promotions and many more are on verge of retiring. It is time the senior officials of the department come out of their slumber,’’ said Krishali. He also said that the inter district transfers of teachers should not be on the promotion posts.
The PSS is also demanding that the surplus teachers posted in inaccessible and remote area of Chakrata and Kalsi blocks for more than 20 years should be transferred to accessible areas. The other demand of the organisation is time scale promotion for those teachers who have completed 22 years of service without any promotions.
The PSS is expected to further intensify its stir in coming days and on Mondaythe agitation of teachers at CEO office would continue.
