Due to the ongoing monsoon season, the supplies of vegetables and fruits are not arriving in Dehradun district on time which is leading to the hike in prices of these products. It has also led to a decrease in the supply of vegetables in Dehradun.
In the last few days, there has been a considerable rise in the prices of commonly consumed vegetables like bottle gourd, lady finger and tomatoes with their prices going up by Rs 25 to Rs 40 per kilogramme. There are also some other vegetables like onion, pumpkin and capsicum of which the prices have gone up by Rs five to Rs 15 per kilogramme.
According to the president of Dehradun Mandi Samiti, Rajesh Sharma, the heavy rainfall in the high altitude regions has disrupted the supply of vegetables like tomatoes due to which the supplies are getting delayed. He said that since some vegetable supplies arrive here from other states too, these supplies are also getting delayed due to rain. The supply process of vegetables gets affected depending on the intensity of the rainfall, therefore, the price of the vegetables will possibly keep on fluctuating for a few weeks more, informed Sharma.
