Chief Minister Harish Rawat has directed officials concerned to prepare for effectively presenting the State’s position and the issues of the public at the National Green Tribunal and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. The Chief Minister directed the chief secretary Shatrughan Singh and forest and environment officials to prepare for presenting in detail to the NGT and MoEFCC, the various requirements of the State, its commitments towards the environment and aspects related to the livelihood of the State’s people. The chief minister said that the State is aware of the responsibility for facilitating a clean environment for the nation and younger generations in the State. He stressed that the officials should also present before the NGT, the employment generation from adventure sports activities like river rafting on the Ganga and other rivers along with the problem of migration from the mountainous areas to the plains being faced in Uttarakhand. Rawat pointed out that the opportunities for employment are comparatively limited in the State. Tourism is a strong base for economic activities in the State. In such a situation, the taking of any decision without learning the State’s view would amount to injustice with the people of the State. The CM stressed that the officials concerned should present these and related issues clearly and in detail to the NGT and MoEFCC in the interests of the State.
