Power supply remains disrupted in rural areas of Garhwal division

Unable to bear the excessive load of electricity, the power supply was reported to be disrupted for nearly one hour in the rural areas of Garhwal division of Uttarakhand. However, department officials told that technical snags were removed for ensuring the round the clock power to the consumers.

The department sources told that the excessive load was reported on the PTCUl (Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand limited) lines thus the power supply was reported to be disrupted for nearly one hour.

Well established sources told that the department faced the shortage of 0.50 million units on Saturday against the demand of 33.75 million units.

The power generation through State run hydro power projects hover around 12.04 million units. Since the demand of electricity was more than its availability, the department was forced to implement load shedding of nearly one hour in the rural areas of Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.

One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the power generation will improve in the near future, once the frozen Himalayan rivers started melting in the near future after rise in the mercury.  He claimed that tripping of lines due to the over-loading is a normal phenomenon.
