Power generation resumes at Chilla power house

Published on:

The Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam limited (UJVNl) resumed power generation from one machine at the Chilla power house on Wednesday. The machine is initially being operated at 18 Mega Watt capacity and will be gradually raised to full capacity. Work is underway to resume operation of machines number two and three.

Due to considerable rain in the mountainous regions, the resulting flood and increased quantity of silt in rivers has caused a drop of about 35 to 40 per cent in power generation at various power houses of the corporation. Power generation has to be stopped in such conditions to prevent damage to the machines due to increased silt.

However, the generation will increase as the quantity of silt decreases in the rivers, said officials.
