Despite the fact the State power department is procuring electricity from the private players to meet with the demand of electricity in the State, the reality is something very different which is being claimed by the department.

Department sources revealed that the department is facing acute shortage of three to four million units of electricity everyday in order to meet with the demand of the electricity in the Garhwal and Kumaon division of Uttarakhand.

Dharasu, 4x60 megawatt Khodri etc. was reported to be badly affected to the silt in the Himalayan rivers and its tributaries.

Besides, the huge gap between the demand and the supply of the electricity in the State also forced the department to implement the load shedding in order to meet the growing demand of the electricity in the State.

The power scenario continues to look bleak in the State as the transmission lines of PTCUl (Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand limited) continued to trip due to the overloading and also forced the department to do rostering to meet with the demand of the electricity in the State.

Among the worst affected areas are the rural parts of the State as Rishikesh 160 MVA transformer continued to overload caused power outage of nearly one to two hours apart from the rostering. The situation is equally worst in the Kumaon division of the State as Jaspur 40 MVA was continued face the brunt of overloading.

Besides, the department also purchased two million units of electricity worth Rs 40 lakh to meet with the demand of electricity in the State.

One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the department has been continuously procuring electricity from the private players to meet with the growing demand of electricity in the State.
