Power default: Consumers told to submit application

Published on:

In view of the increasing number of complaints from the consumers about the electronic energy metres being run faster than the normal speed, Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) has asked all the consumers to submit application to the department while depositing the prescribed fees. Meters would be replaced if required,  officials said.

A UPCl official accepted that complaints were flowing in from the quarters over the past few months, complaining that electronic energy meters were running faster than the normal speed. As per regulation, every lT metre should be tested/checked at least once in five years. “However, UPCl is not doing the same. We are paying for their apathy as we are being forced to cough up more money on this count,” one of the aggrieved consumers said.

As per provision of Act/Regulation, the consumers can apply to UPCl by depositing the prescribed fees. And if the metre is found faulty it is to be replaced.  To satisfy consumers and, at the same time, to fulfil the requirement of regulation (Act), it was decided in the recent departmental meeting that the department would have tested in the first phase  250,000 metres single phase and 50,000 metres three phase through an agency  which has  the required experience and expertise regarding technical apparatus/instruments.
