Power cuts in city mar I-Day festivities

As the people of Dehradun are reeling under hot and humid condition, power–cuts are further compounding their miseries. In some of the localities, the spell of power-cuts continued throughout the day on Monday-the Independence Day. Subsequently, water supply was also disrupted in these places. The people who had hoped to watch Independence Day programme on television sets were disappointed with power-cuts continuing for hours.

On Sunday night, residents of Raipur and Shivlok Colony  grappled with  severe  spells power- cuts. Sumitra, resident of Raipur, said that she failed to  sleep on Sunday night with the power going off around 11 pm. It was   restored at 9 am on Monday, she  said, adding that they did not  get respite on Monday too. “I missed the   PM’s speech on television  because of the  power-cut,” she  complained.

Several areas of Dehradun like Rajpur Road, Salawala, Raipur, Shivlok Colony, Vikaslok, Vani Vihar, Badripur and Nehru Colony had to bear the brunt of the power- cuts, happening frequently on Independence Day.

“We keep suffering with the power going off frequently. The power outages of protracted spells are leaving us miserable,” said Minakshi, a resident of Salawala.

Punit Bisht, of Vani Vihar, echoed the same sentiment, saying that irregular power supply was turning an anathema for them. “My locality reeled under protracted spells of power outages on Monday. Water supply was disrupted too, worsening our  plight,” he complained.
