Power cuts hit normal life at Haldwani

Published on:

Unscheduled load-shedding for about five hours on Wednesday badly hit normal life in different parts of Haldwani and other parts of the region.

The electricity supply that went off around 10.30 am on Wednesday could be restored only around 3.30 pm in different parts of the Haldwani city, including RK Tent House Road, Kushumkhera, Kamaluwaganja, Mukhani, Kaladhungi  Road and Gasgodam Road, to name a few areas.

What adds to the concern is that unscheduled power outages and low voltage problem have disrupted drinking water supply  in urban areas which are mostly dependent on power- driven drinking water distribution system like tube-wells.

Due to load- shedding and local faults, things are no less worrisome in the hilly and the remote areas of the hill state.

According to the figures provided by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl), whereas gross availability of power in Uttarakhand is around 32.65 million unit (mu) per day i.e. about 21.59 mu per day from domestic sources, about 12.09 mu per day from Central pool and rest about 1.03 mu per day from other sources, the demand for power is around 35.82 mu per day in the hill State.
