Power bodies in blame game, consumers suffer

The problem of unwanted tripping of lines or breakdown at transformers could be easily overcome if the department concerned introduces load management technique in the State.

However, department officials said that the department has been continuously by-passing the load at sub-station level for ensuring disruption-free electricity to consumers. Domestic and commercial consumers bear the brunt of load-shedding due to the lack of coordination between the Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand limited (PTCUl) and Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl).

In the case of tripping of lines, both departments blame each other for the tripping. Sources said that the PTCUl has already replaced 179 ampere with 195 in order to prevent lines from tipping. Sources confirmed that the 132 KV Bindal and Purkul sub-stations have capacity to bear the excessive load; hence, the load of the consumers should be diverted from the nearby areas.

Sources revealed that the department should take steps for load management at Prem Nagar (Mohanpur), Kaulagarh, Anarwala, Raipur Araghar, Turner road, ISBT sub stations for preventing the lines to be tripped due to the excessive loads.

Around 15,93,853 are consumers of UPCl and the number has been increasing every year in the State. While highlighting the importance of load management for ensuring disruption-free power supply to consumers in the urban and rural areas of the State, Sudhir Bhatnagar, Chief Engineer, PTCUl, said that the nodal agency should take effective steps for load management.
