The violent demonstration which took place at Shishambada on Monday has once again elicited focus on varied questionable issues including the comparatively recent changes in demographic patterns, prevalence of anomalies dominating land deals and the construction sector across the State.
On condition of anonymity, an official states that it is no secret that some politicians in collusion with public representatives and other Government officials concerned in various departments along with pressure groups formed in different spheres have been facilitating encroachments especially on the banks and the riverbed itself of various rivers in
different parts of Dehradun district.
“On the one hand, the State Government has ordered that no new encroachments should be allowed on riverbanks and riverbeds whereas on the other hand executing this order effectively has been made into a ‘burden’ which not many police officers, other Government officials or
public representatives want to carry. With an eye on trying to optimise their chances of winning in the Vidhan Sabha election slated to be held in 2017, the politicians down from the locality level to the State level have made it almost impossible considering the present conditions, for police and Government officials to discharge their task of
preventing and removing commercial and residential encroachments,” he said.
