The pedestrian trek to Kedarnath shrine is in a bad shape following the incessant rains. The landslides are causing stones to fall continuously at Munkutia, Jangalchatti and Chirwasa among other places. The road has turned precarious at Choti linchauli due to a part of road being washed off. This is causing major problems for the devotees visiting Kedarnath from various parts of the country to offer water to the deity in the holy month of Sawan.
At the fag end of the month Sawan, the number of devotees coming from across the country to Kedarnath is quite large. However, due to dangers lurking in the treks, they are not allowed to leave Sonprayag after 12 pm. Among the places where the paths have turned dangerous are Chhodi Gadhera, Chirwasa, Munkutia and Rambada.
The debris kept crashing down at regular intervals on the paths, making them dangerous. Besides, stones continue falling on the paths, endangering the lives of those who take them.
In Chirwasa, a devotee died recently after a stone crushed him. The police not allowing devotees beyond Sonprayag due to damaged road is causing problems for the pilgrims. A few days ago, about 20 to 50 metre stretch of road had caved in between Rambada and Chhoti linchauli. The pilgrimage continues somehow, but with the roads not being given a permanent treatment, shadows of mishaps keep on hanging on the pilgrims.
