Post JEE results: Students gear up for admissions, counseling

Published on:

Soon after the JEE Advanced (2015) results were announced, students were found pulling up their socks to take admission in the renowned universities of the city. June is the month of counseling and admission procedures throughout the country. But this year the number of students attending counseling in the city is much bigger than the previous years. Admissions are open not just for under-graduate courses but also for post-graduation ones as well.According to reports, many universities have also finalised their dates for second or third counseling. “The second counseling in the Uttaranchal Technical University was held on June 26 and out of 5,453 seats in different branches of

B Tech, 4,630 were allotted to students,” informed the officials of the university.“The university has already held two stages of counseling for different engineering and management courses.Students were seen to apply for different fields and we will soon conduct a third stage counseling for those who were unable to get the branches of their choice as the seats are limited,” said Professor VK Tiwari, Graphic Era University, Dehradun.Speaking about the different fields chosen by majority of students, he said, “Majority of the students are found choosing the branch of Computer Science. If they do not get as per their wishes they either go for the field which is available or else change the college.”

This trend can be attributed to lack of knowledge and peer-pressure. True, it offers a money-centric job. However, only a few of the students are inclined to this branch and others just take it merely as an option,” he added.Dehradun Institute of Technology is all set to hold another counselling on June 28 in Noida where 40 per cent seats are to be reserved for the students of Uttarakhand. Earlier, one section was held on June 26 in Dehradun, providing reservation to board- toppers and those scoring above 95 per cent.

According to the reports by various private colleges in Dehradun, majority of students applied for B Tech CS/IT and management courses like B COM honors. “This year the students not just applied for engineering or management courses but even for law and mass communication,” informed the officials of IMS Unison, Dehradun. Few of the students seem aware of different courses offered and different career options available as their focus is riveted exclusively  on engineering, says an expert.
