In pursuance of the orders of the Uttarakhand High Court for making parking arrangements outside Nainital town to decrease the vehicular load in the lake city, the Nainital district magistrate Deependra Kumar Chowdhry and senior superintendent of police Janmejay Khanduri discussed the possibility of arranging parking facility at Kaladhungi with the officials concerned.
The officials chose forest department land lying vacant for provision of parking facility for light and heavy vehicles going towards Nainital. While inspecting the site, the district magistrate said that a large number of tourists from across the nation and abroad arrive in Nainital town during the summer season and on holidays.
There is not enough space in Nainital town for parking the vehicles in which the tourists arrive. Work in underway for construction of multi storied parking facility in Nainital. In the meanwhile, to prevent any inconvenience to the visitors and improve the traffic management in the town, parking facility is being developed at Kaladhungi. Apart from this, alternate parking arrangements will also be facilitated at Bhawali, Bhimtal, Kathgodam, Garampani, Ramgadh and other places, added the district magistrate.
It will be recalled that earlier during July this year, taking serious cognisance of traffic congestion in Nainital during the tourist season, the Uttarakhand high court had issued various directions to the authorities. The court had been informed at that time that there is facility for parking maximum 1,500 vehicles in Nainital town.
However, during the peak season about 8,000 vehicles arrived here from Haldwani Road apart from which vehicles also arrived here from Kaladhungi Road.
Among other measures, the district administration has also been directed to make arrangements for parking facility outside Nainital town to regulate the vehicular load in the lake city
