Despite the claims of health department, the number of dengue cases is increasing alarmingly in the State capital. The number of positive cases in the Dehradun has mounted to 204. However on Tuesday no report of Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay (ElISA) cases arrived in the district health department.
The reports are expected on Wednesday. On Monday death of a nine year old girl of Chakrata in the Max hospital of the city sent the health officials of the city in tizzy. The spokesperson of the hospital Abha Balodi had claimed that the rapid test of the deceased showed that she was suffering from Dengue.
However on Wednesday health department claimed that the ElISA test of the girl has proved negative for Dengue. The district vector borne diseases officer JP Bahuguna said that it is confirmed that the girl was not suffering from dengue. He claimed that the vector of Dengue the Tiger Mosquito is not found in the cool environs of Chakrata from where the girl was brought to the hospital for treatment.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr S P Agarwal said that most of the dengue cases that are reported in the district have either traveled from outside or have received the infection from other places. He claimed that the department is on active mode on the disease.
The claims of the department prove hollow as the activities on ground reflect lethargy on part of the health and Municipal Corporation. Interestingly the positive cases last year were only 121 as compared to 204 already this year.
