Amid adverse weather conditions prevailing in different parts of the region, disruption in power supply for hours seems to have become a routine affair of late. The electricity supply that went off around 9.30 am or so in different parts of Haldwani on Thursday morning was restored only after 12 noon. More so, tripping continued to hit power supply at regular intervals throughout the day.
According to the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl), with availability of power in Uttarakhand remaining around 33.92 million unit (mu) per day i.e. about 6.52 mu per day from domestic sources, about 11.78 mu per day from Central pool and rest about 15.62 mu per day from other sources, the demand for power is hovering around 34.28 mu per day in the hill State, showing a shortfall of only about 0.36 mu between demand and availability of the power.
However, due to poor electricity distribution network, tripping in power supply keeps adversely affecting the smooth supply of the electricity across the region. Increasing demand for the power has also given rise to frequent disruptions in the electricity supply in the region. The hilly and remote areas of the hill state are the worst hit due to poor supply of power, causing by protracted spells of load- shedding. local faults have only added to the woes of the citizens.
With the met department having forecast moderate to heavy rain and snowfall only between February 1 and February 3, cloudy conditions continue hitting normal life here till Thursday. Foggy conditions in this Terai belt have only added to the woes of the people, disrupting the vehicular traffic during the peak morning and evening hours badly.
