The police are yet to crack the case of theft, which occurred at the house of a resident, Rajeev Barthwal on Vikas Marg in Pauri in broad daylight on Friday. This is despite deploying of three teams to crack the theft case.

Pauri Police kotwali in-charge Chandra Mohan Singh said that report of the theft was lodged by the wife of Rajeev Barthwal on Friday evening and the list of articles supposedly stolen was submitted on Sunday.

Both Rajeev Barthwal and his wife are teachers. The theft occurred when both were in their respective schools.

The thieves broke the lock of the grill and barged in the house. They lifted several things from the almirah, which was unlocked.

The list of stolen articles submitted includes 12 tola of gold, a kilogram of silver and Rs20,000 in cash.

Chandra Mohan said three teams of police have been deployed. Police suspect that those, who sell items like vegetables and other eatables from door to door are behind the theft.

The traders’ association president Rajendra Singh Rawat and secretary Vinay Sharma said the police must go for thorough verification of the identities of those, who are engaged in door-to-door sales.

They warned that unless the administration and police take steps to have their identities verified, the association will itself stop these persons from going on with their trade.

It is pertinent to mention that DIG Garhwal Range Sanjay Gunjyal had instructed all Superintendents of Police of the Garhwal region to conduct verification drives involving the outsiders, particularly those residing on rent and those staying here temporarily. However, no such drive has been launched so far by police.

The Pauri Police kotwali in-charge said that a team has been deputed for verification drive.

Besides, advertisements have been given in the local electronic channels, asking the landlords to submit the list of their tenants with their IDs.
