Police thwarted the attempt of the members of the association of Government school guest teachers to undertake a march to the residence of state Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Monday. On the day, large number of guest teachers assembled at the protest site near the parade ground and went ahead with their earlier declared programme of March to the CM’s residence. Raising anti Government slogans these teachers started the march but the police which was deployed in big numbers, prevented these teachers to proceed beyond Kanak Chowk near secretatariat
The members of the association tried to get past the heavy police bandobast and had a skirmish with it in this effort. In view of the huge number of the agitators the police has made adequate measures and foiled all their attempts to cross the barricades. The agitated teachers squatted at the chock itself and engaged in vehement slogan shouting. A delegation of the teachers was later invited for talks by the Additional Chief Secretary Ranvir Singh but the dialogue was inconclusive.
Meanwhile, the strike of guest teachers entered third day on Monday. These teachers are demanding that the State Government should ensure them that their services would be continued beyond March 2017. The State Government was willing to provide extension to the guest teachers but a High Court order thwarted the plan. The association of guest teacher is of the view that the State Government should take up the matter in the double bench of HC.
