Police taking fool-proof measures to stop cellphone usage by prisoners

Dehradun DM Chandresh Kumar and SSP Pushpak Jyoti inspected the Suddhowala Jail on Tuesday. SSP Jyoti said on Wednesday that it was a routine inspection.

It is learnt that learning from the escape incident, police are taking fool-proof measures to stop the prisoners from using cell phones. The State Government has firmed up a draft to stop such cell phone use by the prisoners. Police said this would minimise the possibility of such escapades. If police sources are to be believed, the hardened gangster Amit Malik alias Bhura had masterminded his escape from his cell in Suddhowala Jail in Dehradun. Police teams got some clues through surveillance that said Bhura had chalked out the details of his escape plan by using mobile phone. Torn maps of Baghpat were also recovered

In connection with the shootout outside Roorkee sub-jail involving two notorious Cheenu Pandit and Sunil Rathi gangs, in August this year, the police had conducted internal inquiry and it was found that the Sunil Rathi, Bhura’s mentor, had hatched the conspiracy of bumping off his rival Cheenu Pandit from his cell in Roorkie jail. Sharp shooters from the  Rathi  group fired shots while Pandit  was about to emerge  from  the jail after being released on bail. Pandit was unhurt though three persons were killed in the gang war.
