Dehradun police have recovered bodies of two persons, include a woman, found hanging together from a tree in the forest area near the famed Santla Devi Temple under Cantt Police Station on Friday morning.
Police rushed to the site upon being informed by the locals who first discovered the duo hanging from a tree. Police said that a bag has been recovered from the site that contained a suicide note, a dairy and a mobile phone. The woman was identified as Priyanka, aged 24, wife of Prem Singh and resident of Barowala in Patelnagar while the man was identified as Virendra Bahadur, aged 26, resident of Chakrata. Police further said that Bahadur was working in a mess attached to a hostel belonging to a private university.
Priyanka was having two children. According to police, an illicit love affair between Priyanka and Virendra was what was behind the suspected suicide by the duo.
A police officer probing the case said that the husband and other relatives of the woman being aware of the illicit relationship prevailing between Priyanka and Virendra, a panchayat had been held to stop it. But they had not stopped meeting each other even thereafter, the police officer said.
Cantt police station officer SS Bisht said that the preliminary investigation and the suicide note recovered from the incident site revealed that both had committed suicide together.
“In the suicide note, the duo wrote that they were ending their lives together as they were unable to live separately. We have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination,” he added.
