Police personnel in remote areas ask for basic amenities

Published on:

One and half months have passed since six police stations in revenue area of mountainous parts and 21 police stations in plains were formed in the State, but they are still facing crunch of basic infrastructures, including even buildings.

Such police stations are also facing staff crunch as the number of police personnel deployed there are not sufficient as per norms. The police personnel working there complained that they have been working with difficulty with the stations remaining bereft of the basic amenities like toilet and drinking water.

In May 2 this year the State Government had set up six police stations in revenue areas while 21 police posts in the plain areas were upgraded to police stations to prevent the crimes.  Earlier, State police had 125 post stations. The number went up to 152.

However, State Additional Director General of Police (Administration) Ram Singh Meena said that with 27 new police stations having come up recently, adequate police force has been deputed. A proposal has been sent for construction of buildings and for equipping them with other necessary amenities under police modernisation scheme to the State Government. Vehicles will soon be provided to the new police stations, he added.

For the time being, the police officers have been directed to work from temporary building taken on rent. They should search for land to build up their own permanent police stations.  After the State Government gives the nod construction would start, he added.

It should be mentioned here that the state government has dealt a severe blow to revenue police by deciding to set up six regular police stations in the areas where policing remained entrusted to the revenue police previously. Moreover, to maintain law and order and provide better administration, the state government had upgraded 21 reporting police posts to full-fledged police stations.

The government also has sanctioned 107 new posts of police officers and police personnel in the state to enable the newly set-up police stations and posts to work effectively.
